What I Do When I Feel Overwhelmed

When I feel emotionally overwhelmed, my first instinct used to be forcing myself to “push through.”

Ignore the stress.
Stay productive.
Keep functioning normally.

But lately, I’ve been realizing that approach only leaves me more exhausted.

So now, I try to slow down differently.

Not dramatically.

Just enough to help myself breathe again mentally.

Sometimes that means:

  • staying offline for a while
  • cleaning one small area instead of the whole house
  • listening to calming music
  • drinking coffee quietly without multitasking
  • taking a bath before bed
  • allowing myself to rest without guilt

Simple things.

But emotional overwhelm usually softens through smaller moments of comfort and stability.

At least for me.

I’m still learning how to regulate stress better.

Still learning how to become kinder to myself during difficult seasons instead of immediately criticizing myself for struggling.

Not just productivity.

Not just survival.

And honestly?

That realization alone already changed a lot in me.
